OUR LEADERS

TOM HARLEY


Tom has been CEO of the Sydney Swans since 2019 and at the club since 2014, previously the club’s General Manager- Football and General Manager of AFL NSW/ACT after a decorated playing career.

He played 198 games and he knows what it takes to lead and succeed on and off the football field. A premiership captain for the Geelong Football Club, he led the Cats to three successive grand finals and two premierships, in 2007 and 2009.

Driven by old school values, Tom is motivated and energised by working with teams that share a common purpose and cause. He practice what he preaches with his ‘one club’ culture evident in all he does, none more so than his work with the AFLW team.

The inclusion of a women’s team and assisting the team at trainings and on match days has been one of the highlights of Tom’s 25 years in the game and he has spoken of how inspired by the female athletes and staff he is.

KATE MAHONY


For over 15 years Kate has worked in elite sport both domestically and internationally and has a passion for establishing high performance environments specifically catered to female athlete needs.

With a sports physiotherapy and exercise science background, Kate has worked extensively with female athletes and teams including with the Australian Women’s Cricket team as physiotherapist and sports science and sports medicine manager, with the Australian Olympic Team in Tokyo 2020, as Head Physiotherapist at the Australian Open, and at tennis tournaments around the globe with the Women’s Tennis Association.

In her role with the Sydney Swans, Kate brings together her passion for elite female sport and experience driving high performance standards to create the best environment for our AFLW players to thrive on and off the field.

SCOTT GOWANS


Senior Coach Scott Gowans has thrived in his role as the inaugural Sydney Swans AFLW team’s coach. Scott’s passion for women’s football is second to none and he has held many roles in women’s football since 2012.

Prior to joining the Swans he held the Senior Coach position at North Melbourne Football Club and had assistant coach roles at Carlton and Collingwood.
Prior to the commencement of the AFLW, Gowans served as the inaugural Head Coach of the Dandenong Stingrays Women’s Academy. He also coached the Victorian Country team to a national title at the 2017 AFL Youth Girls National Championships.

Scott’s role is to empower players to become the best player and teammate they can possible be and to learn and grow the Bloods culture. His coaching style is based on communication, clarity and preparation.
